What is NIST?
NIST was founded in 1901 as the National Bureau of Standards, and it was renamed to NIST in 1988. NIST is headquartered in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and it has a campus in Boulder, Colorado. NIST is a non-regulatory agency that operates under the U.S. Department of Commerce.
NIST’s work spans a wide range of industries and technologies, including cybersecurity, biotechnology, nanotechnology, advanced manufacturing, and more. NIST develops and promotes standards, guidelines, and best practices to improve the accuracy, reliability, and safety of products and services.
